3 Foot Rule Update

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago cyclists were unsuccessful in getting the "3 foot rule" passed in my home state of GA. Well, it did end up passing after all. The original AJC link said the bill would not be signed into law, but that has changed apparently.

The rule will pass after all and require "drivers to scoot over at least three feet when passing cyclists." I didn't realize “scoot” was a legal term. I am going to reiterate the problem with this law. It is contingent on the idea that cyclists want a safe and fair road environment for cagers and themselves. As we all know, this is simply not the case.

All this law does is give cyclists a new way to cause trouble on the roadways. All one of these assholes has to do is slow down or drift over a few feet in his lane while being passed, and suddenly we have a driver in violation of the law. The most extreme cyclists have been known to purposefully cause incidents and wrecks with cyclists, even at their own risk of injury, just to further their cause. Kamikazes, they are known as. This law makes it even easier for them to accomplish that.

Once again the Cycling Lobby has convinced law makers to give them more power to create havoc on our streets, and we as voters let them do it. Today at the Civil Right Game, an annual Major League Baseball tradition, held in Atlanta this year, Carolos Santana told a crow of Braves fans that the voters of GA they should be ashamed for themselves for the recent passage of an Arizona style immigration bill. (See link below). Well we, and the other 19 states who have allowed the 3 foot laws to pass, should be equally ashamed.

What will it take to get you involved in stopping this madness? Higher insurance rates from a 3 Foot Rule violation? Or perhaps you will need to see yourself or a loved one in jail because a Kamikaze got the better of someone you cared about. The more laws these scum get passed in their benefit, the more problems they cause and the more likely you are to find yourself in trouble.

Remember that cycling is not about getting exercise or having a good time. It is about people with low self-esteem crafting a scenario where the rest of the world must bend and succumb to their actions. These people have failed at every aspect in life, and the only thing that prevents them from offing themselves, the only thing keeps them from slitting their wrists, is that feeling of importance they get when they force someone in a car, someone who has a legitimate place to be, someone who is a productive member of society, to be inconvenienced. It gives them a feeling off self-satisfaction that they can’t achieve in their daily lives. Allowing them to constantly stack the rules of the road in their favor only makes the problem worse.

The bad guys win this one. Will you let them win again?

I missed the part of MLK's speech when he yearned for the right of impatient assholes to get home 5 seconds faster by nearly clipping a 170lb cyclist with a 2 ton vehicle.
