Tacks Hit Tour de France as Well

The tack problem has hit the Tour de France as well. You can read about it on several sites.

Again, I don't condone this behavior, but it is becoming clear that in many countries, including this one, people are getting fed up with cyclists. We already saw it in New York last week. It's tough times in this country, and in others. When people are working 2 and 3 jobs just to pay the bills they don't have the patience or time to sit behind some douche bag driving 30 or 40 MPH under the speed limit.

Let me say again, don't stoop to their level. Use your politicians and local governments to get these people off the roads, do it the right way.

  1. Thanks for not advocating criminal behavior. People who are working 2 and 3 jobs need to reconsider priorities in their lives? Maybe selling the SUV and buying a bicycle could reduce debt enough to give up one of those jobs!

    1. Not everyone can just find a job next to their home. Many people have long rides to get find work. It's tough times out there for many Americans.

    2. If empathy is your primary motivator, why are you attacking folks who are trying to save a buck by pedaling themselves to work?

    3. I just wanted to thank you for proving that there are still ignorant people out there. Are you also a raciest? Do other peoples rights often offend you?? Or are you just trying to illustrate what a true douches is? My best advise to you is to back away from a computer... climb on a bike and go for a ride. You might find your general attitude improves once you stop being a dick and perusing a more fulfilling path.

    5. My best advice to the guy who posted on July 17, 2012 at 11:54 AM is to get an education. I am truly dumbfounded by your extreme inability to use the English language.

  2. Amazing. I commute 22km each way to work! I know it is tough but lower fuel costs make it easier!

    1. If you are working one job, great. If you have 2 other jobs just to pay the mortgage, not a lot of time to spend riding bikes. Some will get a car with great MPH and still be able to get from job to job in a timely matter.

Also many have families to get home to. Not everyone can jump on a bike and arrive at work drenched in sweat.

It just isn't realistic to say everyone should bike to work.

    2. But it's realistic to say no one should be able to bike to work?

  4. I'm not exactly sure how you are drawing a connection between these tack attacks and people being fed up with cyclists for making them late to work. Seems like a very desperate attempt to justify the acts of some hooligans.

Cycling in France is treasured as a national sport just as baseball is in America. It just doesn't seem likely someone would choose to sabotage the tour for some vendetta against cycling commuters.

The tack attack which occurred in Central Park happened in an area which is always closed to motor vehicles during the morning hours in which cars are not allowed in the park at all. To say it was done as retribution for cyclists delaying traffic is a reach.

Finally, if these people are angry cause they are late to their 2-3 jobs should they really be wasting their time laying tacks or attending the Tour? Surely there would be more productive ways to spend their hard pressed time.

*I apologize for any typos, I wrote this on my mobile phone.

    1. No problem. The point was that people are increasingly become fed up with cyclists, in many countries, for many reasons. We gave some of those countries and some of those reasons.

Cyclists are creating a lot of havoc on roads across this country and others, and many are fed up with it. And of course, this is the wrong way to go about it.

We here always discourage any kind of violent retaliation or retribution. Call your local politicians to get cyclists off the roads, do it the right way.

Appreciate your thoughts, valid criticism and very well thought out. But it doesn't change things. People are increasingly become frustrated with cyclists.

  6. Cycling is definitely the biggest problem facing the world right now. I didn't realize they are cycling in France now! It really shows how this is not just a domestic issue. I'm so glad you are dedicating your time and energy to eradicating cycling everywhere!

    1. I would disagree it is the biggest problem in the world. Luckily we can discuss all problems society has, and not just the biggest one.
